THE STORY OF ROETS AERO MODEL DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING

The business was created because of a life long passion for aviation and building model aircraft. We decided to go for the gentle giants because they give you that real flying experience and allows you to finish them to the finest detail.

The team (Chris, Stefan and Vian) decided to build a 50% J 3 on request of a gentleman that supplied us with a blown up ¼ scale sig plan. She came out very beautiful. But there was too much fine structional detail missing to be a good scale model. We decided to order blue prints and scale them down. It was not easy but we did it and the results were breath taking. We could not do a 50% because that would be over the CAA wingspan limit for radio control aircraft. The 48% model just cut the limit. The weight may be just over the 25kg limit but the low wing loading compensates for the” may be” over weight.

Our mission is to build a strong business to supply beautiful and reliable giant scale aircraft for the global market. We know that it will take time but we will do it.

THE MEMBERS

Chris grew up in Harrismith, a small Free State town, and got hooked on things with wings when he was 14 years of age. He followed a hot air balloon by foot and landed up at the local airfield.

The place was crowded with gliders and by talking to a very nice gentleman (Uncle Tim Biggs); he learned that it was the annual Easter gliding camp. He was invited to join the tug pilot for the first flight the next morning and that was it!!!!!

They took of in a P A 18 Super Cub 150, the experience of a lifetime.

Ever since he helped out at the local gliding club and at the age of 18 he got his gliding license. He also got his PPL at the age of 20 at Witbank.

Chris established a family business in specialized woodwork in the late 80’s. Roets Enterprises is still going strong and the baby brother (Roets Aero Model Design and Manufacturing) is following suit.

Chris is chief cook and bottle washer at Roets Aero model design. He does all the designing, material research and planning.

Stefan, the eldest son, is the technical guru and joined the family business after he matriculated at John Vorster technical high school in Pretoria.

He picked up the ropes of the business very quick. Currently he is the production manager at Roets Enterprises.

Like father like son. He got his PPL at the age of 22 and enjoys every minute in the air.

Stefan does all the landing gear on the aircraft and the final checks on the rigging and controls. He is also our test pilot. Never lost an aircraft on its maiden flight.

Vian, the youngest son also joined the family business after school. He is the building co ordinater with the passion for building these gentle giants. He is also responsible for the excellent cockpit interior.
